Henry Arthur Boone, 93, of Orange City died Sunday, November 23, at Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City.

Services were at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at American Reformed Church in Orange City with the Rev. Harlan Van Oort officiating. Burial was in West Lawn Cemetery.
Boone was born November 14, 1904, in rural Orange City, the son of Henry and Dora (Kleinhesselink) Boone. He was raised in Orange City, where he graduated from high school. He graduated from Morningside College and received his master’s degree in school administration at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado. He married Dena Bonthuis August 14, 1930, in Rock Valley.

He served as principal, coach and later superintendent at Ponca (Nebraska) High School, superintendent at Alton, at Sioux Rapids and at Woodbine for 29 years. He retired and moved to Orange City in 1971. He entered Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City in September 1996 and transferred to Heritage House in August 1997.
He received numerous honors including the Lyle T. Quinn Award from Iowa High School Athletic Association in 1978. He was inducted into the Iowa Basketball Officials Hall of Fame.

He was a member of American Reformed Church, where he served as an elder on the consistory. He was also a member of the Iowa and National Education Associations and the Masonic Lodge. He was a member and past president of the Iowa Girls Athletic Association and served as a high school basketball, football and baseball official for 25 years.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter and her husband, Lois and Walter Clark of Tucson, Arizona; a son and his wife, Dale and Jean of Orange City; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Boone of Rock Rapids; a sister, Jennie Heemstra of Orange City; and six grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by a son, Dr. Paul Boone; six brothers; and a sister.
