Hawarden Independent December 20, 1923

Millard B. Troxell, former cashier of the Hawarden State Bank, passed away at his home in Denver, Colorado Saturday evening, December 15th, following an illness which extended over four years during which time he battled valiantly to regain his health, always hopeful that he might overcome the disease with which he was afflicted. A couple of weeks ago he contracted the grippe and his weakened system was unable to overcome the immediate cause of his death. Funeral services were held in Denver Tuesday and interment was made at that place.

Millard Baxter Troxell was the second son of Dr. & Mrs. M.F. Troxell and grew to young manhood in Kansas. He was about 32 years of age. Upon the completion of his high school work he attended Washburn College at Topeka, Kan., from which institution he graduated, receiving both a Bachelor of Arts and a law degree. It was while attending Washburn College that he first met Miss Miriam Ring, only daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Andrew Ring of this city, and they were later married in this city on August 5, 1917. Following their marriage they made their home at Topeka for about a year, but in the fall of 1918 they returned to Hawarden and was made a cashier of the Hawarden State Bank. He was active in this position for about a year, during which time he erected a new home in Hawarden but before they were able to move into it he was seized with illness and early in 1920 they went to Denver there it was hoped that the climate might. A spirit of hopefulness always dominated him, however, and it was doubtless this spirit, which enabled him to ward off the hand of death for four trying years.

During the time he spent in Hawarden he made many fast friends through his ever cheerful manner. He was a young man of ability and promise and it is indeed sad that his life and health could not have been spared. Besides his wife he is survived by one son, Millard Andrew, aged 5 years, and his parents, Dr. & Mrs. M. Troxell of Denver, besides brothers and sisters, to whom the sympathy goes out in their dark hour.
