Johanna Mouw William Bonnecroy died Apr 13, 1944

Mrs. Johanna Bonnecroy, 87 passed away at her home in Orange City Thursday, April 13, at 5:30 p. m. after suffering a sudden stroke. She was born in the Netherlands on Sept. 9, 1857 and came to America at the age of 9 years.

The family came to Sioux county in 1872 and were among the first settlers of the county. In the year 1889 the decedent was married to J. W. Bonnecroy of Orange City.

Surviving are her children Jake Bonnecroy of Orange City; Anne. Mrs. Ralph Van Zyl of Alton and Miss Lyda Bonnecroy of Orange City. One sister, Mrs. M. Rowenhorst of Sioux Center and 2 grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services were held Monday in the Van Etten Funeral Home with the Rev. H. Colenbrander, pastor of the First Ref. church officiating. Mrs. Bonneroy was a member of the First Church. Interment was made in the local cemetery.

Mrs. Bonnecroy Rites At Orange City Monday
Mrs. J. W. Bonnecroy, nee Johanna Mouw, one of Orange City's pioneer residents, passed away at her home very suddenly late Thursday afternoon at the age of 87 years. Mrs. Bonnecroy had listened to the five o'clock news over the radio, and was apparently in her usual health when attacked by a stroke which caused her death within half an hour.

She was born in the Netherlands and at the age of 9 years came to the United States with her parents, who settled in Pennsylvania. Two years later the family came to Sioux county and homesteaded in the Orange City vicinity. She was married in 1890 to John Bonnecroy.

Three children were born to the union, all of whom survive their mother, namely Jake, living south of Orange City, Anna, Mrs. Ralph Van Zyl of Alton; and Lyda, her mother's companion at Orange City. She is also survived by two grandsons and one sister, Mrs. M. Rouwenhorst of Sioux Center.

Funeral services were held Monday at 1:30 at the Van Etten funeral parlors, with the Rev. H. Colenbrander officiating. Mrs. Henry De Kraay of Sioux Center, a nieceof Mrs. Bonnecroy, beautifully sang a favorite hymn, "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Ellsworth De Jong.

Mrs. Bonnecroy was a splendid Christian mother devoted to her family always a kind neighbor and loyal friend.
