From the April 21, 1917 Alton Democrat:

After months of pain and suffering F. O. Parker, sr. passed away Monday shortly after 10 o'clock a. m. He had been afflicted with tuberculosis of the bone of the jaw for some years and about a year ago had a very severe sickness from it but finally recovered and got about again. The jaw healed and he got back a large part of his strength, but as is the way of his disease it kept insidiously sapping his strength and poisoning his system. For several months he has been bedfast and a great sufferer.

He was born February 3,1841 at Gustavus, Trumbull county, Ohio and was therefore past 76 years of age at his death. When he was a lad of 8 his parents removed to Jefferson, Astabula county, Ohio, and there he grew to manhood. He was married August 3, 1803 to Miss Sarah E. Angelo at Andover, Ohio, and soon thereafter enlisted in the army and fought to the end of the war for the preservation of the union. After Lee's surrender he was honorably discharged and returned to private life.

Five children were horn to the marriage all or whom with their mother survive and were with him in his last hours. They are: Trav C. and E. R. Parker, of Le Mars, Rena M. Pryor, of Romeo, Col.; Rose L. Shager of Parker S.D. and F. O. Parker jr. who has been his main reliance as nurse and attendant. He was the last one of his father's family to go. The funeral was Wednesday at 10 o'clock a. m, from the house. By his own request there was no sermon or eulogy and only a short prayer by Rev. D. M. Simpson after which the Odd Fellows lodge took charge and escorted the body to the cemetery where it was tenderly laid away with the impressive ceremony provided for the dead.

Mr. Parker and his family came to Ireton about 1900 and since that time have been prominently Identified with the social and business life of the place. For many years he was in the grain business but retired from active work about 12 years ago.
