From the November 24, 1915 Alton Democrat:

Alexander Morrison, sr., died Wednesday about noon after a lingering Illness of several weeks. Mr. Morrison has been an invalid for a long while and yet has been able to be around up to within about four weeks ago when he had an attack of dropsy which soon sapped the strength already weakened. He was a patient sufferer through it all and the last days he was anxious to be called to his last reward. The writer spent several happy moments with him and he was resigned and ready to meet his Saviour face to face.

Alexander Morrison was born November 20, 1838 in the county of Farmanna, Ireland. He was left an orphan in his early life and when six years old his sisters and himself were taken to Dundee, Scotland. When 15 years of age he came to this country settling in Jo Daviess county, Illinois. In 1864 he enlisted with Co. I, 53rd Ill. Reg. in the war of the Rebellion. He was honorably, discharged in 1865.

On March 6, 1867 he was united in marriage to Mary Young at Galena, Ill., and to this union 12 children were born. In 1882 he moved further west coming to Plymouth county and 1890 to Sioux county, first north of town where he farmed for ten years, then moving to Ireton where he resided until his death. His wife died five years ago. One son, David, was found dead in Galena, Ill., three years ago, and one child dying in infancy. Ten children are left to mourn the death of a father, William, John, George. Mrs. G. L. Houlton,; Mrs. Fred Schuette, and Mrs. Bert Vandewater, of Ireton, Mrs. Ed Muth of Salem, S. D., Alexander of Canistota, S. D., Mrs. James Lemmon, of Sioux Falls, S. and Mrs. Geo. Freese of Kenneth, Minn. The funeral was held Friday afternoon from the house, Rev. Batchelor of Mount Joy preaching the sermon. Interment was made in our beautiful cemetery beside his wife. Peace to his ashes.
