James Morrison Dies at Age 85

Ireton, Iowa — James Morrison, 85, of Sioux City, a former resident of Ireton, died Wednesday, December 8, in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Viola De Raad, following a long illness.

Funeral services were held last Friday and interment was in Memorial cemetery in Sioux City. Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Schuette and Mrs. Jennie Houlton and Ione attended the funeral.

He was born September 17, 1869 at Galena, Ill. He came to Ireton as a youth, and resided here 60 years before moving to Sioux City. He followed the trade of a painter and carpenter.

Survivors include the widow, Molly; three daughters, Mrs. De Raad of Sioux City, Mrs. Luella Kuhn of Grand Meadow, Minn., and Mrs. Nellie McNally of Los Angeles, Calif.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. F. W. Schuette and Mrs. Jennie Houlton of Ireton, Mrs. Margaret Lemonds of Sioux Falls and Mrs. Bert Vande Water of Parker, S.D. and one brother, Alex Morrison of Montrose, S. D.

Poster's note: According to the 1925 Iowa census, James was married to Molly Ehlers. He was the son of Civil War Veteran Alexander Morrison, Sr. and his wife, the former Mary Young, early Ireton area pioneers.
