Mrs. Keough Dies; Rites At Struble

Was Pioneer Resident Of Maurice Vicinity

Mrs. Kate H. Keough, 76, early settler in the Maurice vicinity, died Thursday in a hospital at Council Bluffs, following an illness of four months. Death was due to heart trouble and complications.

Mrs. Keough was horn in Manchester, Ia., June 12, 1859, and when a girl came to Sioux county. For several years she taught in rural Schools in Sioux county.

Married in '86

She was united in marriage with John Keough, member of a pioneer family in Sioux county, Nov. 25, 1886, and they farmed for many years near Maurice. Mr. Keough died Nov. 23. 1921.

Mrs. Keough leaves four sons, Leo H. Keough, of Sioux City; Verne and Loy Keough, of Le Mars, and Frank Keough, of Chicago, a sister, Mrs. Anna Zaph, of Dubuque, and two brothers, J. P. Foley, and Jas. Foley, of Galesburg, Ill., one brother, Thos. Foley, preceded her death. There are nine grandchildren.

Services Monday

Funeral services were Monday morning in St. Joseph church at Struble, the Rev. Father J. B. Greteman, celebrating the mass, and internment was made in the cemetery at Maurice.

Mrs. Keough was widely known in Plymouth and Sioux counties. She lived a life of usefulness, and was active in church and community work, in addition to maintaining her home and sharing the duties on a farm.

Poster's note: In the 1925 Iowa census, Kate gives her parents' names as Mary (Abbot) and John Foley. She was referred to in at least one document as Katherine Keough but most census records and her tombstone use Kate.
