From the March 31, 1966 Hawarden Independent (Ireton News):

Word was received here by friends of the death of Steve Lemonds on March 13 at Arcadia, Calif. Mr. Lemonds was a former resident of the Ireton vicinity. He was reared here and was married to the late Ethel Rogers.

Poster's note: Steve Lemonds was born September 29, 1889 in Iowa, the son of Ida (Sears) and Elmer Lemonds. He married Ethel Rogers on October 12, 1912 in Sioux City, Iowa. Ethel (Rogers) and Steve Lemonds were the parents of Maxine Isabelle Lemonds; Sarah Myrtle Lemonds; and John Stephen Lemonds. Ethel (Rogers) Lemonds passed away on May 19, 1918.

Steve married Lillian Louise (Kluter) Torwelle on April 18, 1919 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Lil was the mother of one son, Robert Vincent (Vince) Torwelle who later took the last name Lemonds. Lil and Steve were the parents of: Carrol Ellen Lemonds, Charles Elmer Lemonds, Collin Douglas Lemonds, Twila Jean Lemonds and James Lee Lemonds. Steve and Lil divorced about 1943 in California.

Lil was a sister to my grandmother, Ruth (Kluter) Brown.
