Gertie Van Middendorp, 85, died Wednesday, December 22, 1993, at the Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital in Rock Rapids, Iowa. Funeral services were held at 1:30 P. M. Friday, December 24, at the First Reformed Church of Doon, Iowa. Burial was at the Hillside Cemetery of Doon, Iowa. Rev. Jim DeBruyne officiated. Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley, Iowa was in charge of arrangements.

Gertie was born August 17, 1908, at Rock Valley, Iowa, daughter of John and Hattie (Van Grouw) de Boer. Gertie married Neal Van Middendorp February 22, 1933 at Rock Valley. Together they farmed in the Doon and Alvord, Iowa area until retirement 1979 when they moved to Doon. Neal died November 15, 1986.

Surviving relatives include three sons and their wives, John and Leora of Rock Rapids, Iowa, Vernon and Evonne of Doon, Iowa, Edwin and Brenda of Gerritson, South Dakota; two daughters and their husbands, Harriet and Kenneth Postma of Doon, Iowa, Janice and Arnold Post of Rock Valley, Iowa; two sisters, Hattie Cleveringa of Rock Valley, Iowa; Jennie Driesen of Rock Valley, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Gertie was preceded in death by her husband, Neal; three brothers, Oscar, Gerrit, and Arthur De Boer; two sisters, Cora Otten, and Effie Van Middendorp.
