Harold A. South

Mr. Harold South, 94, of Hull, died Friday, Jan. 8, at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Jan. 11, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, rural Hull. The Rev. Gerald Aamot and Bishop April Larson officiated. Interment followed at the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery.

Harold Albertus was born April 6, 1904, in Minnesota, the son of William and Anna Mae (Geerlings) South. He was raised in Minnesota and Michigan.

On Oct. 23, 1925, he married Clara Mae Yntema in Forest Grove, Mich. In 1931, they moved from Michigan to northern Minnesota, where they farmed at Goodridge for 46 years. Harold was also a carpenter, who specialized in kitchen remodeling. In 1978, Mr. and Mrs. South retired to Hull. She died June 22,1989, in Sioux City.

In February of 1995, Mr. South became a resident of Pleasant Acres Care Center.

Harold was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church. He had been active in both church and community affairs, especially serving on a school board and a soil conservation board in Minnesota.

Survivors include his daughter and her husband, Aleta and Joseph Ulring, of Sioux City; Five grandchildren and their spouses, Janet and Dr. Jon Christianson, of St, Paul, Minn., Bishop April and the Rev. Judd Larson, of LaCrosse, Wis., Beth Ulring and Chad Troy of Sloughton, Wis., James and Nancy Ulring of Decorah, and Scott and Ann Ulring of Golden Valley, Minn.; 13 great-grand-children; one great-great-granddaughter; and one sister, Jeanette Geving, of Zeeland, Mich.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.

Memorials are being directed to the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Evangelical Lutheran Church of America Missions, and the Pleasant Acres Care Center.
