Obituary: Rock Valley, Iowa: Johanna "Jo" Int Veld, 90, of Rock Valley, died Sunday, July 21, 2013 at the Sanford USD Medical Center, Sioux Falls, South Dakota. A funeral service will be at 10:30 am Thursday, July 25, 2013 at the First Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley with Rev. Matt Haan officiating. Burial will follow at the Valley View Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 24, 2013 from 3-5 pm at Porter Funeral Home and 6-8 pm with family at the First Christian Reformed Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Christian Education or Crossroad Bible Institute prison ministry. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.porterfuneralhomes.com.

Johanna was born February 23, 1923 at Colton, South Dakota, the daughter of Henry and Gertrude (Van Bruggen) Vahl. After high school, Johanna received her teaching certificate from Madison State College. She married Conrad Int Veld on June 10, 1947 at Colton, South Dakota. Together they lived near Colton, Brookings, Volga, and Sioux Falls, South Dakota where Johanna was a homemaker, a substitute teacher at the Volga Christian School, and a Sunday school and catechism teacher. In 1999, Conrad and Johanna retired and moved to Rock Valley. She was a faithful member of Ruth Circle at First Christian Reformed Church and was involved with Crossroad Bible Institute prison ministry. Johanna enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and playing games with friends but family was most important to her.
She especially enjoyed watching the little children.

Johanna is survived by her daughters, Darla (Marv) Hettinga of Alton, IA, Donna (Harlan) De Vries of Orange City, IA, and Janet (Dave) Wright of Sioux Falls, SD; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Arlene Vahl of Edgerton, MN, Corky Van Grouw of Inwood, IA, and Margaret (Delmar) Westra of Pella, IA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Conrad; daughter, Jane; parents, Henry and Gertrude; great-grandson, Collin De Vries; and brother, Harold Vahl.
