Mr. Irwin Van Marel, 68, of Orange City died Saturday evening in a Sioux Falls, South Dakota hospital after a brief illness.

Services were held Tuesday, October 30 at 1:30 P. M. in the Orange City. Rev. Cecil Martens and Rev. Frank Snuttjer officiated. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Sioux Center under the direction of the Van Gelder Funeral Home, Orange City.

Mr. Van Marel was born July 22, 1916, at Orange City. He married Ann Punt on June 12, 1944, at Sioux Center area before moving to Orange City in 1966.

During semi-retirement he was owner and operator of the Trading Post in Orange City.

Mr. Van Marel was a member of the First Reformed Church. He was a veteran of World War II and was a former member of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Ann; one daughter, Mrs. Bernard (Carol) Bylsma of Hull; one son, Ivan of Corsica, South Dakota; four grandchildren, Leanne, Clarissa, Jason and Leah; father and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Punt of Sioux Center; two brothers, Arie of Steen, Minnesota and William of Orange City; four sisters, Mrs. Bill (Irene) Te Slaa and Mrs. Gerrit (Gertrude) Te Slaa, both of Hull, Mrs. Fred (Mabel) Cleveringa and Mrs. Clarence (Cynthia) Cleveringa both of Soux Center and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Jake; two sisters, Tena Van Marel and Mrs. Henrietta Riphagen.
