Merton Henry
Meron Henry, 81, of Hudson, died Thursday at the Hawarden hospital.
Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in Big Springs Baptist Church, rural Alcester, with the Rev. Kenneth Lewis officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery under the direction of the Wass Funeral Home, Alcester.
Mr. Henry was born Jan. 28,1896, in Sioux County, Iowa. He grew up on a farm west of Hawarden. He married Amy Nelson Nov. 4, 1917, at Hawarden. They farmed in the Hawarden- Alcester area. She died May 3, 1932.
He married Opal Edwards Aug. 21, 1934, at Elk Point. He continued farming in the Alcester and Big Springs area, and in 1963 he retired and moved to Hawarden. Mrs. Henry died Jan. 22, 1972. Since 1974 he had been a resident of a Hudson nursing home.
Survivors include a son, Alvie of LaCrosse, Wis.; three daughters, Mrs. Paul (Eddie Lew) Newburg of Wausa, Neb., Mrs. Orlin (Bonnie) Anderson of Webster, Wis. and Mrs. Babs (Glenda) Masha of Lagos, Nigeria; a sister, Mrs. Mabel Tiller of Bellevue, Neb.; 11 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
