Mr. Elbert H. Vander Brake lost his life in a tragic tractor accident at his farm home at about 8:15 o’clock, Wednesday evening, May 23, 1945 at the age of 37 years, 8 months, 1 day.

Left to morn his early departure are his wife and four daughters, Jane, Bertha, Lois and Phyllis, and five brothers and sisters, namely; Tillie Vander Blake of Chicago, Mrs. Edward Van Putten of Sioux Center, Mrs. Gerben De Vries of Sioux Center, Jake Vander Brake of Sioux Center, and Rev. Henry Vander Brake of Orange City. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. Vander Brake, his father passing away in the year of 1918 at the age of 40 years and his mother in the year of 1935 at the age of 48 years. Also a brother Elbert who passed away in infancy.

Mr. Vander Brake was born on the farm south of Sioux Center on September 22, 1907 and lived on the same farm all of his married life. In year 1931 he was united in marriage to Miss Agnes Den Ouden at Springfield, South Dakota and she now survives him with the children.

Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon, May 26 at one o’clock at the home and 1:30 at the First Reformed Church with Rev. L. A. Brunsting officiating. Burial took place at the local cemetery with Ted Kaemingk, Martin Vander Meer, Henry Kamerman, Herman Ennema, John Van Binsbergen and Gerrit Vander Brake acting as pall bearers.
