Ethel E. Davis
October 9, 1901 - October 1, 1996

Ethel E. Davis, 94 of rural Hawarden died Tuesday, October 1, at her residence in Union County, South Dakota.

Services were at 11 a.m. Friday, October 4, at First Baptist Church In Hawarden with the Rev. George Henriksen officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery, Hawarden.

Mrs. Davis was born October 9, 1901, in Niobrara, Nebraska, the daughter of Thomas and Jennie (King) Cameron. She taught in rural schools In the Niobrara area for several years. She attended Wayne State College before resuming teaching. She then received her registered nursing degree from Lincoln General Hospital in 1927.

She married Arthur E. Davis June 28, 1927, in Lincoln, Nebraska. The couple farmed near Lynch, Nebraska, and moved to a farm near Hawarden in 1938. She worked as an R.N. for Mapes Nursing Home in Hawarden for 20 years, retiring in 1978. Her husband died February 11, 1989.

She was a 55-year member of First Baptist Church, where she was a deaconess, taught Sunday school and was a member of the Goodwill class. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, fishing and bird watching.

Survivors include four daughters and their husbands, Arta and Harold Vander Schoor, Jean and Dean White and Yvonne and Wilbur Hartman, all of Hawarden, and Jayne and Stan Venard of Waukee; a son and his wife, Cameron and Verlan Davis of Hawar¬den; 15 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was also pre ceded In death by three grandchildren, two sisters and three brothers.
