George Timmer, 83, of Rock Valley died Wednesday, May 12, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Services were at 10:30 a.m., Monday at Pioneer United Methodist Church in Rock Valley with the Rev. Jerry Robertson officiating. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery.
Timmer was born December 18, 1915, in Sioux Center, the son of Willem & Martha (Baak) Timmer. He moved with his family to Rock Valley as a child. He worked for his father and later for CCC in several states including Arkansas. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Following his discharge, he was employed as a route salesman with Thornburg Company in Rock Valley. He married Clarraine Vander Schaaf, June 7, 1947 in Sioux City. The couple lived in Rock Valley, where he was employed with the U.S. Post Office until retiring in 1980. She died September 1, 1991.
He was a member of Pioneer United Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and Rural Mail Carriers Association.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Steven & Lynn of Edina, MN; a daughter and her husband, Gayle & Alan Podowski of Dyer, Indiana; four grandchildren; a niece and his caregiver, Karen Bauder of Rock Valley; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Henrietta Van Maanen; three brothers, Bernard, Jacob and Peter, and two infant sisters.
