Peter Timmer, 82, of Rock Valley died Tuesday, May 2, at Orange City Municipal Hospital. Services were at Pioneer United Methodist Church in Rock Valley on Friday with the Rev. Ron Johnson officiating. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery.

Timmer was born on November 10, 1912, in The Netherlands. He moved with his family to Michigan, Sioux Center and Rock Valley as a young boy. He worked as a heavy-equipment operator on road construction and soil-conservation projects, including the Alcan Highway in Alaska in 1942 and 1943. He married Joyce Koele on February 20, 1943 in Hull. The couple lived in Rock Valley. He served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Demolition Unit during World War II from 1943 to January 20, 1946. He then continued as a heavy-equipment operator in Rock Valley.

Timmer served on the Rock Valley city council and Rock Valley Public School Board. From 1972 until retiring in 1989, he served on the Sioux County Board of Supervisors and Mid-Sioux Opportunity. He also was a member of Rock Valley Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Randall of Danville, CA; two daughters and their husbands, Marna Lou & Eric Gelsler of Santa Monica, CA, and Maria Sue & Mike Pearce of Lake Forest, CA; four grandchildren. Mikaela and McKenzie Pearce and Garrett & Relly Getsler; and one brother, George Timmer of Rock Valley.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bernard and Jacob, and a sister, Henrietta Van Maanen.
