Bernard J. Timmer, 85, of Doon, Iowa died Wednesday, April 17, 1991, following a heart attack at the Sioux Valley Hospital, Sioux Falls, SD.

Services were held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, April 20, at the First Congregational Church of Doon, Iowa. Rev. Ed Van Holland officiated. Burial was at Hillside Cemetery of Doon. Visitation was held at the Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley.

Bernard J. Timmer was born near Appledoorn, Netherlands on May 19, 1905. He was the son of William & Martha (Baak) Timmer. He came to America at an early age to the Rock Valley area.

Bernard married Jennie Van De Weerd on July 29, 1929, at Canton, South Dakota. Together they lived at Rock Valley and Ireton before moving to Doon in 1941. Bernard drove truck for a rendering service 37 years before his retirement. Jennie died February 18, 1986.

Surviving relatives include his daughter, Mrs. Lindy (Martha) Kruger of George, IA; two brothers, Peter and George, both of Rock Valley; eight grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

Bernard was preceded in death by his parents, William & Martha; his wife, Jennie; his daughter and son-in-law, Bernice & Paul Johnson; a great granddaughter, Melisa Johnson; and two infant great grandchildren; his brother and sister-in-law, Jacob & Sally Timmer, and his sister, Henrietta Van Maanen.
