Sheldon - Charlene Vanden Brink, 61, Sheldon, died Friday, Nov. 19, at Valley Manor Nursing Home in Rock Valley.

Services were Monday, Nov. 22 at First Reformed Church in Sheldon, with the Revs. Gordon Bloemendaal and David Brower officiating. Burial was at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon, under the direction of Sheldon Funeral Home.

Charlene Vanden Brink, daughter of Marion Jacob & Henrietta (Westra) Moss, was born June 10, 1943 in rural Boyden, where she lived her youth and attended school. She attended Floyd Valley High School in Alton. She married Alvin Vogel on Nov. 29, 1959. To this union three children were born, Marsha Wissink, Cindy Jenney and Michael Vogel. She married Rodney Vanden Brink of Orange City on July 25, 1992 in Sheldon, where they lived. She worked part-time at Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon as a custodian. She later worked at Village Northwest Unlimited in Sheldon, until she was not able to work because of her health.

She was a member of First Reformed Church in Sheldon. Her faith in God was very important to her. She and her husband enjoyed going out for coffee with friends and visiting with people. They had a lot of fun playing cards and laughing together. She also loved being with her family and grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Rodney Vanden Brink of Sheldon; two daughters, Marsha Wissink of Ames, and Cindy & James Jenney of Argos, IN; a son, Michael & Ruth Vogel of Sheldon; two stepsons, Kevin & Karen Vanden Brink of Orange City, and Alden & Michelle Vanden Brink of Hospers; two stepdaughters, Deeann & Dave Bylsma of Hull, and Sharon & Kenneth Puhl, of Chatsworth; eight grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; three brothers, Pete Moss of Orange City, James & Bernice Moss of Sioux Center, and Eugene & Marla Moss of Sioux Center; and three sisters, Agnes & Marion Wielenga of Orange City; Marilyn & Gerald Bruxvoort of Orange City, and Joan & Herlon Vander Schaaf of Sioux Center.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Bryan Wissink, and a brother, Albert Moss.
