Ben Vonk.

Ben Vonk, 75, of Mesa, Arizona, formerly of Sioux Center, died Sunday, July 1, at the Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls. Services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday at New Life Reformed Church in Sioux Center with the Rev. Carl Boersma and the Rev. Wayne Van Regenmorter officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.

Vonk was born March 4, 1926, to Ben and Jeanette (Katje) Vonk. Hewas raised in the Sioux County area and served in the armed forces from May 1945 to December 1946, He married Winnie Van Regenmorter on March 7, 1952. He farmed near Sioux Center, Inwood and Rock Valley. After retiring from farming, he was, employed, by Hope Haven for 18 years where he worked with the handicapped and drove bus. He moved to Chandler, Arizona, in October 1994 and recently to Mesa. He was a charter member of New Life Community Church and recently a member of Bethany Community Church of Tempe, Arizona. He enjoyed participating in Bible study groups, bicycling and playing pool and cards.

Survivors include his wife; three children, Dennis Vonk of Le Mars, Beverly Ohman of Ames and Virgil Vonk of Gilbert, Arizona; four grandchildren; four brothers, Henry of Mt. Lake, Minnesota, and George, Pete and Eugene, all of Sioux Center; and five sisters, Jeanette Feekes of Sun City, Arizona, Gertrude Van De Berg, Goldie De Jager and Kathy Vande Kieft, all of Sioux Center, and Dorothy Van Bochove of Sun City. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Gerrit.
