Sioux Center - Gerald Stanley Ter Haar, 72, Sioux Center, died Tuesday morning, March 4, at Sioux Center Community Hospital.

Services were Friday, March 7, at the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center, with Rev. Arnold Punt officiating. Burial was at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center, under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.

Gerald Ter Haar, son of Henry & Grace (Van Otterloo) Ter Har was born March 12, 1930, near Sioux Center. He was raised in Sioux Center and attended Sioux Center Christian School. He entered the U.S. Army on Feb. 26, 1952. He served two years stationed in Germany during the Korean War.

After his honorable discharge he returned to the Sioux Center area, where he began working for Hymans Construction in the late 1950's.

He married Nelva De Vos on May 22, 1964, in Sioux Center. They later were divorced. Later, as an employee of Hymans Construction Co. he had the opportunity to become one of the co-owners of the business until the mid 1980s. He retired in the late 1980s.

He had many interests to fill his spare time. He was an avid gun and coin collector, and enjoyed owning vintage cars. He also spent time building model cars. He liked fishing and hunting and taking rides in the countryside.

He was a member of First Reformed Church of Sioux Center along with the Doornink-Brunsting Post 199, American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign War Post 6129. He served as treasurer of Hymans Pit Fishing Club and was proud to be a card-carrying member of the Nation Rifle Association.

Survivors include a son, Todd and Debra Ter Haar of Sioux Center; a daughter, Rhonda & Henry Sandbulte of Sioux Center; six grandchildren; a sister, Helen and Roger Bolks of Sioux Center, and a brother, Don & Irene Ter Haar of Albuquerque, NM.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Philip Ter Haar; and a granddaughter, Danielle Sandbulte.
