HOLD RITES FOR PIONEER, MRS. VANDER AARDE [*nee Anna LUBBERS].

Funeral services for a pioneer Orange City lady, Mrs. Anna Vander Aarde, 91, were held Monday at the First Reformed church with the Rev. Raymond Van Heukelom and the Rev. H. Colenbrander officiating.

A long-time resident of Orange City, Mrs. Vander Aarde lived in the same house on Sixth St. N. E. for the past 52 years. She died at the home of her son, Bernard on Friday, Dec. 1. She was born, Anna Lubbers on August 21, 1870 on a farm near Zeeland, Michigan. At the age of 13, she moved with her family to a farm a mile south and a half west of Orange City. In April of 1893, she married Bastian Vander Aarde, jr., and the couple lived in a house built by bricks from his father's factory. After living in this house for six years, the family, now including a son and a daughter, moved to a ranch near White Lake, South Dakota. They had been living there a year and a half when In 1899 a great prairie fire wiped them out and severely burnt Mrs. Vander Aarde.

Soon after, they returned to Orange City where Mr. Vander Aarde was engaged in business for many years. He died in 1952. She was a member of the First Reformed church for 75 years and was a charter member of two of its organizations, the Senior Ladies Missionary Society and the Christian Endeavor society.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Andrew De Zeeuw of Sioux Center, Mrs. Agnes Vermeer and Mrs. Julius Zevenbergen, both of Bellflower, Calif.; two sons, Robert of Richmond, V. A., and Bernard of Orange City; a brother, John Lubbers of Orange City; 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Edward, Ray, Alfred and Wlllard Lubbers, Ralph and Henry O. Mouw, Mrs. Robert Bonnecroy and Mrs. Herman Fedders furnished the special music. Interment was in the Orange City Cemetery.
