HENRY VAN DYKE

Funeral services were held at the First Reformed church of Lynden, Wash., recently for Henry Van Dyke, former Ireton resident, who suffered a heart attack July 1 and died a short time later at a hospital at Monroe, Wash. Mr. and Mrs. Van Dyke were 75 miles from their home following a 11,000 [mile], two-month trip, which included attending a wedding of their niece in Rock Valley, visiting his mother in Sheldon, attending the Reformed National Synod in Pennsylvania and visiting relatives in Florida. Rev. Harold Hesslink officiated at the services. Burial was in Momenta cemetery at Lynden.

Mr. Van Dyke was born to Mr. and Mrs. Peter Van Dyke June 29, 1898, at Doon. When a small child, his parents moved to a farm northwest of Ireton and later to the town of Ireton. He was one of the first Ireton young men to be called to the colors in World War I and served until the close of the war and was stationed in France much of the time.

On February 22, 1923, he was united in marriage to Miss Priscilla Harmelink and the couple moved to Ferndale, near Lynden, Wash., where they have since resided. A farmer, he was also in the cement block business in Lynden. He also served as custodian of the First Reformed church there a number of years. He was a member of the consistory for 30 years.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his four children, Helen at home, and Mrs. Ruth Hyink, Route 2, Lynden, Wash., Paul of Bellingham, Wash., and David of Grandview, Wash. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Alberta Van Dyke of Sheldon; two sisters and two brothers.
