Bernice H. Jasper, age 81, Orange City, died Sunday, Oct. 2, 1994 at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 1994 at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Cornelis Venema officiated. Interment followed at Nassau Township Cemetery at Alton under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home, Orange City.

Bernice was born March 25, 1913 at Alton, the daughter of Herman A. and Nellie (Den Hartog) Scholten. She was raised at Alton where she graduated from high school. On Feb. 16, 1939 she married Arie Jasper at Alton. They made their home at Orange City. Mr. Jasper died April 6, 1986 at Orange City. On Oct. 20, 1987, Mrs. Jasper became a resident of the Heritage House.

She was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church. For many years Bernice accepted the reservations for the Dinner Date program in Orange City. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed sewing, crocheting and crossword puzzles.

Survivors include her four daughters, Nelva and her husband Richard Vander Plaats, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Carolyn and her husband Robert Nobling, Pulaski, Tenn.; Eurice Haupert, Sioux City; and Mona and her husband Randy Van Voorst, Sioux Center; two sons, Arden Jasper, Sioux City; and Duane Jasper and his wife Annell, Anaheim, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, John Scholten, Alton; three sisters, Jeanette Riedeman and Nelvina Scholten, Orange City; and Margaret Scholten, Alton; and a sister-in-law, Minnie Scholte, Alton.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter; four sisters, Minnie Scholten, Ann Langstraat, Abby Geurink, and Grace De Boer; and two brothers, Simon and Gerald Scholten.
