Thea Jane Mouw was born June 4, 1955, to Andy and Wilmina Van Dyk (Nibbelink) at the Sioux Center Hospital. She grew up on a farm with her 5 siblings near Orange City Iowa. She attended Orange City Christian School, Unity Christian High School, Northwest Iowa Community College, and finished her education at Dordt College.

Thea married James (Jim) Mouw on September 12, 1974. They made their home in Hull, Iowa and later moved to Denver, Colorado for a short time. The couple moved back to Northwest Iowa where she did the accounting for their business (Jim’s Digging Service). After obtaining her CPA license she worked for Williams and Company in LeMars, Iowa. She finished her career at Premier Communications in Sioux Center. She enjoyed the challenge her work provided, as well as gardening, cooking and boating. She was a member of Hull First Christian Reformed Church and then First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center.

Aside from her faith nothing was dearer to her than her family. Thea deeply loved spending time with her husband, siblings, children and grandchildren. Nature always presented inspiration and beauty to her and she could see God’s creative genius through it. Through all her trials in life, Thea continued to grow in her faith and served as a steady foundation for those around her. As she aged she chose to become less about herself and more about others. Thea entered glory on July 25, 2009 after a 6 year battle with breast cancer. She will be deeply missed but her memory will be kept alive by everyone she touched.

Survivors include her loving husband, Jim of Sioux Center, two daughters: Jamie (Eric) Netjes and their children: Emma, Olivia, Anna, and Drew of Sioux Falls, SD, and Kelly (Jake) Franken and their children: Brynn and Noah of Sioux Center; two sons: Nick (Emily) Mouw of Denver, CO and Jon Mouw of Sioux Center; her mother, Wilmina Van Dyk of Orange City; four sisters: Geri (Bob) Van Ruler of Sioux Center, Benita Postema of Denver, CO, Linda Van Dyk (Eric Clambey) of Denver, CO, and Judi (Tony) Van Berkel of Sioux Center; and a brother, John (Ellen) Van Dyk of Denver, CO. Also left to cherish her memory are her mother-in-law, Hilda Mouw of Hull; Jim’s brothers: John (Val) Mouw of Rock Valley; Harlan (Kathy) Mouw of Hull, and Ed Mouw of Sioux City; Jim’s sister, Glenda (Jim) Davelaar of Sioux Center, along with many nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her father, Andy Van Dyk and Jim’s father, Joe Mouw.
