Richard J. Bonnema, 81, of Inwood, died Friday, April 12, 2002 at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, Funeral service was Monday,at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Inwood, with the Rev. John Wolf officiating. Burial was in the Richland Cemetery at Inwood. Porter Funeral Home in Inwood was in charge of the arrangements.

Richard J. Bonnema was born on Nov. 24,1920 on a farm near Ireton, the son of Jerry and Bessie (Van Dahm) Bonnema. He was baptized at the Christian Reformed Church in Lebanon, and made confession of faith at the Christian Reformed Church in Hawarden. He attended rural school through the eighth grade and then began work with neighboring farmers.

On Feb. 28, 1943 he married Leora Winona Moeller. They lived and worked for her father one year before moving to their farm in Inwood. He served on various boards at Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the West Lyon Board of Education.

Survivors include his wife Leora; two sons, Barrel and Dale both of Inwood; two daughters, Carol Hoines of Lake City, S.D. and Helen Mitchell of Decorah, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Jay of Inwood; sister, Ruth Caswell of Rock Rapids; and sister-in-law, Edith Bonnema of Shawnee Trail, El. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert and Lawrence; sister-in-law, Dorothy; and daughter-in-law, Ruth Bonnema.
