Final rites held Monday for Mrs. John L. De Groot.

Funeral services were held at the First Christian Reformed church Monday afternoon for Mrs. John L. De Groot, 76, who died here Friday, April 20. She had suffered from a lingering illness over a period of more than four years, during which time she was faithfully eared for by her husband.

Mrs. De Groot, nee Clara Haarsma, was born August 13, 1879, at Berlikum, [*Friesland], The Netherlands. She came to America with her parents in 1893 and was married in Orange City to John L. De Groot, January 8, 1901. They farmed in the Maurice and Orange City area until their retirement.

Five sons were born to this union. One son preceded her in death at the age of 4½ years. She is survived by her husband, John, and four sons; Leonard of Orange City, Peter and Dick of Manhattan, Mont, and Henry of Sioux Falls. Also, 17 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren.

She is also survived by one brother and two sisters: Dick Haarsma and Bertha De Groot of Orange City and Mrs. Barry Heemstra of Monroe, S. Dak. Rev. A. Dusseljee conducted the memorial services. Interment was in the Sherman township cemetery, with Van Etten funeral home in charge of all arrangements. Pallbearers were John, William, Clarence, Harvey and Leo De Groot, all sons of Leonard De Groot; and Tony Kuiper, a soninlaw.
