From the Alton Democrat of October 1, 1904

Rev. Peter Leenhouts died at the home of his sister Mrs. Van Rooyen in Hospers Tuesday night at nine o'clock. He was born in Milwaukee fifty years ago and at the age of twentyseven was ordained a minister of the gospel. He preached for years at Madison Wisconsin and was engaged at Oxford Wisconsin when he came here to visit. Other pastorates held were at Peoria and Green Valley Illinois, Golden Colorado and La Crosse and Amsterdam Wisconsin. His ailment was pregressive pernicious anaemia from which he had been suffering for years. Plainly speaking it was a shortge of red blood corpuscles. His wife arrived Wednesday noon also his brother John of Milwaukee. His mother has been here for some weeks. After a brief service at the VanRooyen home Thursday by Revs. Te Selle and Mouw of Hospers and Revs. Hyink of Charter Oak and Heemstra of Newkirk the remians were taken to Sheldon for shipment to Milwaukee where he will be buried from his brother's home.

(From another family account on line, Peter J. Leenhouts was born 18 Jan 1854 Milwaukee, son of Wm. Jacobs Leenhouts and Cornelia Breen. This account lists his wife as Penelope and child Ethel born 1889.)
