August 2, 1952 - April 26, 2013

Mr. Carvell Pearson, age 60, of Orange City, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2013, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital and Health Center.

There will be a funeral service on Tuesday, April 30, at 2:00pm, at the New Hope Evangelical Free Church in Orange City. The Rev. Jeffrey Whitt will officiate. Interment will be at a later date at the Prairie View Cemetery in Paullina.

Carvell Richard was born on August 2, 1952, in Hartley, the son of Curtis and Charlotte (Johnson) Pearson. He was raised in Hartley, where he graduated from the high school. He also attended Northwestern College in Orange City, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree.

On June 15, 1974, he married Sandra Lee Richter in Hartley. They made their home in Ruthven, Spencer, Columbus Junction, and Orange City.

Carvell first was a school teacher and coach. He then worked at Iowa Beef Packers in Storm Lake, while coaching at Spencer and Columbus Junction. From 1995 to 2012 he was employed at Tyson – Advance Brands in Orange City, and he also was a cook at the Sioux Golf and Country Club in Alton from 2001 to 2013. In January of 2013, he became a security guard at Securitas – Golden Crisp at Sioux Center.

He enjoyed coaching, collecting baseball cards and coins, cooking, golfing, playing strategy games on the computer, and reading Clive Cussler and Louis L’Amour books. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears and the New York Mets.

Mr. Pearson loved doing things with his family. With his grandson, Michael, he participated in the Special Olympics for four years, receiving four gold medals in golfing.

Survivors include his wife of more than 38 years, Sandy; four children, Lezlie Pearson, of Orange City; Amanda (Lee) Moerman, of Maurice; Elizabeth (Nik) Siepka, of Colton, South Dakota; and Andrew Pearson, of Orange City; seven grandchildren, Michael (13), Jonathan (10), and Jessica “JJ” (7) Moerman; Curtis (12) and Lukaus (10) Pearson, and Skylar (7) and Nikoliz “June Bug” (5) Siepka; his mother, Charlotte Pearson, of Hartley; two sisters, Sue Hansen, of Sheldon; and Deanna

(Bryan) Glossop, of Rock Island, Illinois; his parents-in-law, Les and Deanie Richter, of Sanborn; a brother-in-law, Blair Richter, of Paullina; and many nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father in 2000 and his grandparents, Lloyd and Cora Pearson and Leslie and Helen Johnson.
