Hauie M. Greigg, 96, of 1526 S.
Helen St. in Sioux City, IA, a
longtime Sioux City business
woman and former resident of
Ireton, IA, died on Friday, January
6,1995, at Embassy Rehabilitation
Center at Sergeant Bluff, IA, after
an illness of several months.

Services were scheduled for 11:00
a.m. on Wednesday, January 11,
1995, at Redeemer Lutheran Church
in Sioux City, the Reverend Paul
G. Sicveking officiating. Graveside
services will be held at 2:30
Wednesday afternoon at Pleasant
Hill Cemetery at Ireton. The
Christy, Smith and Hockenberry
Morningside Chapel was in charge
of arrangements.

Mrs. Greigg, the former Hattie
Torwelle, was born April 9, 1898,
at Ireton, the daughter of Henry and
Henrietta (Laker) Torwelle. She
was raised in Ireton and attended St
Paul's German School. She married
Robert D. Greigg on October 16,
1920 at Ireton, and the couple lived
at Hawarden, IA, before moving to
Sioux City iin 1942. Mr. Greigg
died March 12, 1945, in Sioux
City.

Mrs. Greigg owned and operated
House of Hamburger on Morningside
Avenue in Sioux City for 25
years, and she continued in the
restaurant business at the Varsity
Cafe for 20 more years. In
recognition of her long service to
Morningside College students and
staff, she was honored by the
college. In 1973, she was honored
as a Merit Nominee for the Iowa
Mother of the Year Award. Her son,
Stanley L. Greigg, served as mayor
of Sioux City in 1964, and was a
member of Congress from Northwest
Iowa.

Mrs. Greigg was a member of
Redeemer Lutheran Church for more
than 50 years, and a longtime
member of the Business and
Professional Women.

Survivors include a son, Stanley
L. and his wife, Cathryn Greigg of
Washington, D.C.; two daughters,
Myma M. Wendt and Helen Greigg-
Gehring, both of Sioux City; a
daughter-in-law, Wavie Miller
Greigg of Sioux City; seven
grandchildren, Geri Livermore, and
Robert, Guy, David, Valerie,
Heather and Cathryn Greigg; and a
great-grandson, Alan Livermore.
She was also preceded in death by
two sons, Robert D. and William
L. Greigg; five brothers; and one
sister.

A memorial has been established
in her name with Redeemer
Lutheran Church.
