Remsen - Dorothy Wanderscheid, 82, Remsen, died Wednesday, May 2, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

Services were Saturday, May 5, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, with the Rev. Thomas Hart officiating. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery in LeMars, under the direction of Fisch Funeral Home of Remsen.

Dorothy Wanderscheid, daughter of William & Anne (Mairose) Kellen, was born May 16, 1918, in rural Alton. She was raised in the Alton area and received her education at St. Mary's Academy in Alton. She lived in southern California for several years during World War II, then moved to the Remsen area.

She married Nick Wanderscheid on June 23, 1955. They made their home in Remsen.

She was employed at Sacred Heart Hospital which later became Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars for 30 years. She also was employed at the Golden Pheasant in Remsen. Mr. Wanderscheid died April 26, 1973.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Christian Mothers.

Survivors include two sons, Steven & Debbie Wanderscheid of Sheldon and Paul & Stacy Wanderscheid of Des Moines; three stepdaughters, Dorothy Homan of Slayton, MN; Jean & Richard Cherkas of Sioux City, and Lois Peters of LeMars; a stepson-in-law, Floyd Arens of Los Angeles; six grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren; and four sisters-in-law: Marie Kellen of Remsen, Marian Kellen of Remsen, Helen Kellen of Alton and LaVonne Kellen of Dallas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nick Wanderscheid; a stepdaughter Betty Arens; several stepgrandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; six brothers, Verne, Ray, Vic, Bob, William in infancy and Stan Wanderschied; and five sisters, Flornece Henrich, Lillian Gengler, Frances Wess, Evelyn Harmon and Esther Bohlke.

NOTE: The obit shows her brothers as having the last name of Wanderschied, if they are brothers their last name was probably Kellen.
