Hawarden Independent, May 11, 1912

The funeral of Mrs. W. C. Walton was held at the Presbyterian church last Saturday afternoon and was largely attended. Rev. V. A. Weir, pastor of the church, preached the funeral sermon. Katie McKinnon was born Nov. 17, 1852 at Inverness, Quebec. In 1876, she came to LeMars, Iowa, and on Feb. 11, 1892, she was married to William Cutler Walton, coming to Hawarden at that time to make her home. Two sons were born to them, William D., who died in infancy, and Donald, who is the only surviving member of the family. Mr. Walton having died Nov. 27, 1896. Besides her son she leaves four sisters and three brothers. She died as she lived, in the full confidence of her Savior. The relatives and friends from out of town in attendance at the funeral were: Mr. & Mrs. John Robertson, and Mr. & Mrs. Peter McKinnon of Brunsville; Mr. & Mrs. Alex Crawford and daughter of Elk Point, and Donald Crawford of DeSmet, SD; Mrs. D. Robert, son Frank Port and S. McGinnis of LeMars, and Mrs. Katie Strader of Sioux City.
