Mr. John Van Surksum was born September 7, 1870 in the Netherlands. He was married June 5, 1897 to Maria Koppendrayer She was born (in 1877and died in 28 Mar 1920). They farmed eight miles north and one east of Hull when they came in 1913. They were blessed with nine children: Gerrit, Kate (Mrs. J, Oostra) Jake, Johanna, Dena (Mrs. Ray Grooters), Nellie (Mrs. Henry De Jongh), Johanna (Mrs. L. Van Batavia) John, Bill.
