LeMars Sentenial, May 18, 1906

E. A. Vandermeer, a well known builder and contractor of this city, died at his home on Main Street on Monday evening, after several weeks illness. He suffered a stroke of paralysis while in his office about seven weeks ago and never recovered from the shock. Other complications retarted his recovery as he had suffered for some time with lung trouble and this was the immediate cause of his death, pneumonia having supervened.

Mr. Vandermeer was a native of Holland and was born at Leywarden, March 1, 1857. He came to the United States in 1870 and in 1881 was united in marriage with Mary Vanderburg at Pella, Iowa. Seven children blessed their union, six of whom survive. They are John, Albert, Mamie, Gertrude, Dow and Minnie who with the bereaved widow are left to mourn the loss of a kind and loving father. The dead man also leaves two brothers, D. A. Vandermeer of Ft. Collins, CO, and Heber Vandermeer, of Leywarden, Holland.

Mr. & Mrs. Vandermeer in the years of their early married life lived in Pella, Orange City and in South Dakota and Minnesota. They came to LeMars nineteen years ago and have resided here since.

Mr. Vandermeer was a skilled mechanic and forged ahead at his trade and became a contractor and builder.

He has built a large number of residences and buildings in this town since he came here and at the time of his death had several contracts on hand.

He was a progressive citizen active and perservering, and toiled early and late. He was a kind and indulgent husband and father and much of his work was accomplished with the view of providing the means of giving his children the best advantages in his power and making them and their mother happy and prosperous.

The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the First Baptist church.
