LeMars - Peter Arie Vander Meer Sr., 92, LeMars, formerly of Rock Valley, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in LeMars.

Services will be 10:30 a.m., today (Saturday, Sept. 27) at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in LeMars, with the Rev. Andrew Hoffmann officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in LeMars, under the direction of Feuerstein Funeral Home in LeMars.

Peter Vander Meer, son of Arie & Eva (Van Duyn) Vander Meer, was born July 14, 1911 in Hawarden.

He moved with his parents as a child and grew up in Rock Valley. He married Margaret Tuynman on Aug. 1, 1934, in Rock Valley. He founded Vander Meer Bakery in 1934 in LeMars.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Trinity Council 1466, B.P.O.E. (Elks) and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 1381. He also was active in the Red Cross, Chamber of Commerce, Boy Scouts of America, the Iowa Bakers Association and Rotary Club.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Vander Meer of LeMars; four sons, Peter Vander Meer of LeMars; Bill Vander Meer of Ankeny; Tom Vander Meer of Great Bend, KS, and Jim Vander Meer of Cincinnati; four daughters, Mary Conry of Waukee, Evelyn Albrecht of Burnsville, MN; Ann Savage of Sarasota, FL and Dorothy Kelley of Des Moines; 29 grandchildren; and 26 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Atea Savage.
