Sioux Center News, August 20, 1959

Funeral services for Martin Vander Meer, 67, long-time resident of this vicinity who died Tuesday morning at his home in Sioux Center, will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, August 21, at the First Reformed Church here.

Services will be conducted by the Rev. Harry Brower and burial will be made in the Sioux Center Community Cemetery. Co-op Funeral Service of Sioux Center is in charge of arrangements.

A brief service will be held at the Vander Meer home preceding the service at the church.

Mr. Vander Meer was born January 9, 1892, at Leota, Minnesota. He came to Iowa at an early age, and spent the rest of his life in the Sioux Center community.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Henry Vander Meer; his first wife, Jennie Punt; two sisters, Mrs. Jessie Douma and Mrs. Dora Van Steenwyk; and half brother, Charles Steensma.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Marvin; two daughters, Linda and Harriet (Mrs. Gerrit Fedders) of Orange City, IA; two step-sons, Edward Riepma of Sheldon, and Bernard Riepma of Chandler, Minn; two step-daughters, Ramona, Mrs. Marvin Wiersma of Orange, IA, and Mary Lou, Mrs. Arie Noteboom, Jr. of Maurice, IA; two brothers, John Vander Meer of Sioux Falls, SD, and Henry Vander Linden of Oakridge, Oregon; three sisters, Mrs. Martha De Boer, and Mrs. Minnie Veldhuizen of Pease, Minn, and Mrs. Jeanette Van Roekel of Sibley, IA, and 18 grandchildren.

NOTE: His second wife was a Tena, her first marriage was to a Riepma.
