Mrs. William Bomgaars, 85, Casa De Paz, died Tuesday in the nursing home after an illness of several months.
Services will be at 11 a.m., Friday in the First Christian Church. The Revs. Richard & Nancy Spleth will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m., today in the Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.
Mrs. Bomgaars, the former Tena De Velder, was born Dec. 7, 1897 in Boyden, Iowa. She attended Iowa State Teachers College (now University of Northern Iowa) at Cedar Falls, Iowa. She taught rural school near Boyden prior to her marriage.
She married William Bomgaars Nov. 10, 1920, at Boyden. He died July 15, 1982 in Sioux City.
Mrs. Bomgaars was a member of the First Christian Church, Esther Group of the Women's Christian Fellowship and was an Honorary Deacon Emeritus of the church. She was a member of Isis Chapter 173 Order of Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, Women's Auxiliary of Abu Bekr Shrine Temple and the Sioux City Woman's Club. For many years she knitted mittens for the annual Goodwill Christmas party.
A memorial has been established in her name with the First Christian Church.
Survivors include one son, Harold of Sioux City; two brothers, Dr. Marion of Holland, Mich., and the Rev. Walter of Waverly, Ohio; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
