Garrett Bolks, 89 years and 11 months of age, passed away at the home of his son, Herbert Bolks, of Hull. Mr. Bolks was born in the Netherlands and came to America at the age of seven years. His parents settled in Overeisel, Mich. He attended Hope college, being Hope's oldest graduate for some years.

Some 55 years ago he came to Orange City, where he taught school, and later went into business at Orange City and Maurice. He married Marcia Bottenburg of Holland, Michigan. She preceded him in death by 10 years. For a while he resided at Cedar Rapids with his children.

He is survived by four daughters and three sons, and by grand and great grandchildren. Mrs. James De Pree, mother of Doctor and Al of Sioux Center, is his only surviving sister.
