John C Dykstra, 89, of Rock Valley died Monday, June 6, at Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley. Services were at 10:a.m. Wednesday, June 8, at Pioneer United Methodist Church in Rock Valley with the Rev. Ron Johnson officiating. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery.

Mr. Dykstra was born June 21, 1904, in Sioux County, the son of Charley and Aartje (Van Surksum) Dykstra. He married Maybelle Oostenink August 6, 1935 in Sioux Falls, SD. The couple lived in Rock Valley where he operated the John Deere dealership 30 years and the Ford dealership 53 years. He was a member of the Rock Valley Fire Department 47 years, serving as chief for 36 years. He served several terms on the Rock Valley City Council and was one of the original founders of the Valley Manor Nursing Home in Rock Valley.

Survivors include his wife , a brother Charles Dykstra of Bellflower, California; seven nephews and one niece. He was preceded in death by a brother, Garret Dykstra; four sisters, Jessie in childhood, Johanna Wynia, Dena Van Gelderen and Jessie Bonthuis
