Theodore “Ted” Dykstra, 87, of Rock Valley died Friday May 16, at Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley. Memorial services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Netherlands Reformed Church in Rock Valley. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery.

Mr. Dykstra was born April 29, 1916 in Inwood, the son of John T and Ziena (Vugteveen) Dykstra. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II from September 5, 1942, until December 5, 1945. He married Gertrude Rozeboom on January 28, 1947. They farmed northwest of Rock Valley until retirement and moved into Rock Valley in 1996. He also worked for the Rock Valley Sale Barn and Hay sales for 47 years. She died August 12 2000. He had been a board member of Rock Valley Community Oil and Farmers Lumber for many years and was very active with the Senior Citizen Center.

Survivors include two sons and their wives John H. and Donna Dykstra of Sioux City and Theodore Jr. and Dawn Dykstra of Canton, SD.; three daughters Thelma De Smit of Rock Valley, Lenora and her husband Bob Raymond of Canton and Linnette and her husband Dennis Johnson of Sioux Falls; a brother and his wife, Gerrit and Helena Dykstra of Rock Valley; a daughter-in-law and her husband, Audrey and Earl Schuld of Woodstock, Minnesota; a sister-in-law , Frances Dykstra of Sioux Center; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Gerald Dykstra; a grandson; a son-in-law Jay De Smit and a brother, Clarence Dykstra
