Mrs. Mildred Van Gorp, age 89, of Orange City, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2013, at the Orange City Area Health System Hospital.There will be a memorial service on Wednesday, March 6, at 1:30pm, at the Alton Reformed Church in Alton. The Rev. Scott Bonestroo and the Rev. Dr. C. Orville Kool will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. There will be a prayer service on Wednesday, at 12:15pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Visitation will be after 5:30pm on Tuesday, with the family present from 5:30pm to 7:00pm, at the funeral home.
Mildred was born on October 20, 1923, in rural Alton, the daughter of Gerrit J. and Gertrude (Vander Maaten) Kleinhesselink. She was raised in rural Alton and attended the Alton Public School.
On June 15, 1943, she married Russell Van Gorp at her mother’s home in Orange City. They made their home in the Orange City area, where she was a homemaker and also served as a housekeeper at the Vogel Paint Corporation. In 2012, they became residents of the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City.
“Millie” was a member of the Alton Reformed Church. She enjoyed playing cards and carrom.
Survivors include her husband of more than 69 years, “Russ”; two brothers-in-law and their wives, Donald and Alvina Van Gorp, of Montevideo, Minnesota; and Perry and Jo Van Gorp, of Sioux Center; and three sisters-in-law, Esther, and her husband, Peter Bos, Frances Van Gorp, and Hendrene Van Gorp, all of Orange City.
She was preceded in death by a brother and his wife, Joe W. and Arabella Kleinhesselink; four sisters and their husbands, Dena and Elmer De Vries, Alvina and Henry P. Vander Zwaag, Henrietta and Bernard Van’t Hof, and Winnie and Arthur Korver and Dick Stander; and two brothers-in-law, Howard Van Gorp and Lloyd Van Gorp.
