Lewis F. Osterday, 85, a long time and early day resident of Hawarden, passed away at his home at Marion, Iowa, last Friday. Funeral services
were held at Marion.

Lewis F, Osterday was born at Viola, Wis., December 20, 1858. As a young man ihe worked for Ringling Bros, circus at Bavaboo, Wis., and after coming to Hawarden he always was presented with complimentary tickets to their performances in this section of the country. He came to Hawarden as a young man and was employed by the Disbrow Furniture and undertaking company as a mortician.

Later for 23 years he was employedin the same capacity by the W. L. Sumner furniture and undertaking establishment. He was married to Emma Griffith of Ireton after coming to Hawarden and to this union were born three children, two of whom preceded him in death. One daughter, Mrs. Florence Smith of Junction, Colo., and an adopted son, Herbert Osterday of Dell Rapids, S. D., survive him. His wife preceded him in death some years ago.

In the early days of Hawarden, Mr. Osterday was active in the affairs of the town. He was a charter member of the John Brewer fire department, a member of the early day band and of the Odd Fellows lodge.

Later he went to Marion, Iowa, where in April, .1927, he was married to Sophia Daigle,. who survives him. He also leaves three brothers and four sisters, Peter Osterday of Wayne, Wis.; Charles Osterday and Mrs. Ataarda Peterson, of Stockton; Edward Osterday, Mrs. Harrison, Mrs. Lucy Cox and Mrs. Luella Mapes of Stockton.
