Edgar Orton Called by Death
In the death of Edgar Orton, which occurred at 10:30 Sunday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Al Coons, this community has lost another of its older residents, who spent many years in the neighborhood and was a familiar figure to nearly everyone.

He was ill but a few days with pneumonia, which together with complications, was the cause of his death. Had he lived until Aug. 31st he would have reached his 84th birthday. For more than 44 years he was a resident of Sioux county and he always gave his best to the community in which be lived. A man of honesty and one who practiced the golden rule, made him friends everywhere who respected him and his opinions.

Although- past four score years when he suffered severe attacks of illness his great will power and find constitution always stood him well until his recent illness.

Funeral services were held form the AL Coons Home at 1 o’clock Tuesday afternoon and from the Methodist church at 2 with Rev. C. E. Tompkins in charge. Burial was made in Pleasant Hill cemetery.

Edgar Ichabod Orton son of Ichabod and Abigal Orton was born at Fairfax VR, Aug 31, 1850. He lived there four years and then his parents moved to New York. In 1856 they moved west to Wisconsin and live there for a short time, later moving to Chicago where he followed the carpenter trade after the big fire.

He was untied in marriage with Mrs. Mary E. Elliott at Maurice IA, July 24, 1890 . For several years they lived in Washington Township and in 1898 they retired and moved to Ireton. His wife preceded him in death Nov 25, 1899. Since the death of his wife he made his home with his son John Orton. Four weeks preceding his death he went to the home of his daughter for a brief stay and while there he became ill and death claimed him.

He leaves to mourn his death one son, John Orton of Hawarden; and two daughters, Mrs. Al Cooons of Ireton and Mrs. J. S. Turner of Artesian, S. D.; fourteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Jeanette Stebbins of California, and a host of friends.
