Death of Former Resident

The many friends of Martin Orton, who was well known here for years, were grieved to learn of his death which followed an operation at the Methodist hospital in Sioux City. Mr. Orton had many relatives and friends in. Ireton and vicinity as well as at Rock Valley. His body was brought here for burial Tuesday afternoon in the family lot.

Following is a clipping from the daily papers: "Following an operation Martin W. Orton, 57 years old, 310 West Frederick street, South Sioux City, died in a Sioux City hospital Sunday. Mr. Orton was born October 30, 1873, in Freeport, 111., and moved with his parents, when he was 11 years old, to Struble, Iowa. He lived there several years and then moved to LeMars, where he resided some time before moving to Maurice, Iowa. At Maurice he was in the grain business several years.

The last four years he has resided in South Sioux City, where he had operated a grocery store two years. Last September Mr. and Mrs. Orton celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. Mr. Orton was a member of the I. O. 0. F. lodge at Ireton for 37 years.

Besides his widow, he is survived by four sons, Cecil, Robert and Larry, of South Sioux City, and Kenneth of Sioux City; a daughter, Eileen of South Sioux City, and a sister, Miss Carrie Orton, of Maurice.
