Mrs. Henry Otten of Alcester Passed Away Monday MorningMrs. Henry Otten of Alcester passed away at 12:15 Monday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Steve Elgersma, two miles northwest of Alcester, following a lingering illness of two years. She had been bedfast since Christmas at her home but some over four months ago she was removed to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Elgersma, that she might receive the best of care. Mr. and Mrs. Otten made their home with their sons, Gerrit and Henry Otten, two miles north of Alcester, and her husband cared for her tenderly as long as he was able to do so.
Funeral services were held from the Steve Elgersma1 home at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon with Rev. J. Rozendal, pastor of the Christian Reformed church of Hawarden, in charge. Interment was. made in. the Alcester cemetery.
Geyze ‘Gysje’ Bloemendal was born at Nykerk, Province of Gelderland, Netherlands, Nov. 12, 1862, and passed away Aug. 24, 1931, at the age of 68 years, 8 months and 27 days. She was united in marriage with Henry Otten Sept. 4, 1887, in the Netherlands and they continued to make their home there until 1920 when they came to America. Two of their sons, Gerrit and Melis, had already immigrated here and for the first year they made their home with Mr. and Mrs. Melis Otten, who at that time lived near Hudson. The next year they moved onto the farm two miles north of Alcester, occupied by their sons, Gerrit and Henry, and she made her home there continuously since that time. She was a true Christian woman and she was ever kind to anyone with.
She is survived by her husband, five sons, Melis and Walter of Hawarden; Dick of Canton;
and Gerrit and Henry of Alcester; and two daughters, Mrs. Steve Elgersma and Mrs. Martin Baker of Alcester. She also leaves thirteen grandchildren.Out of town relatives and friends who attended the funeral were John Brands and Fred Bouma of Rack Valley; Mr. and Mrs. Tunis Van Lant and M. and Mrs. John Van Lant of Inwood; Mrs. Bouma and two sons of Alvord; Mr. Foogt and mr. and Mrs. Henry Post of Sioux City; Mr. and Mrs. John Vogelzang of Adron; Mr. and Mrs. John Hamstra of Ireton and Jake Roast of Canton.
