George De Vries,
George De Vries, 86, ofWorthington, Minn., died Saturday, Sept. 1, at the South Shore
Care Center in Worthington. Funeral was 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church in Round Lake, officiated by the Rev. Robert Bartlette. Burial was in the Round Lake Cemetery.
De Vries was born April 29, 1926, in Boyden, to Gerrit and Alice (Hoogland) De Vries. He attended country school near Boyden.He married Sadie De Boom on December 11, 1947, in Orange City. In January 1948, the couple moved to the family farm southeast of Round Lake. They built their own home in Round Lake in 1968. He also worked for Gerdes Construction in Lake Park. He later began working at Campbell's Soup Company in Worthington for over 20 years before retiring in 1988. He became a resident of the South Shore Care Center in January 2011. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Round Lake and volunteered at the Worthington Mission Store. He enjoyed saw sharpening and woodworking, especially making toys for his grandchildren who were very special to him.
Survivors are his wife, Sadie De Vries, Round Lake; three children, Glen De Vries and Marvin De Vries, both of Harris, and Curtis (Kathy) De Vries, Worthington; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Alfred (Evelyn) De Vries, Sioux Center, Harold (Joyce) De Vries, Hull, and Le Roy (Betty) De Vries, Denver, Colo.; and two sisters, Alida Remes, Aurora, Colo.; and Emma De Joode, Stanchfield, Minn.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Jeannette Buffington.Source: September 12, 2012 , Sioux Center News.
