John Hoogland
John Hoogland, 76, of Sioux Center died Tuesday, June 22, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital. Funeral services were Friday at 9:30 a.m. at First Reformed Church in Sioux Center with the Rev. Arnold Punt officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Sioux Center.

Hoogland was born to Lammert and Kate (Bosch) Hoogland on July 13, 1922, in Orange City. He graduated from Christian school in 1936. He farmed with his parents until 1943 when he entered the military. He served with the 6th Armored Division in Europe. He was in the Battle of the Bulge.

He married Tracy Ennema on February 10, 1947. He worked In different implement shops as a mechanic until 1953 when he started his own business. He was a member of First Reformed Church and the VFW Post 6129. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, collecting baseball cards, traveling and spending time with his family.

Survivors include two daughters, Gracie and Wayne Evenhuis of Scottsdale. Arizona, and
Lavonne and Jim Brommer of Sioux Center; a son, Verlyn and Julie of Arikeriy; six grandchildren, Sheri and Paul Shroyer, Angie Evenhuis, Jennifer, Charles and Lindsay Brommer and Molly Hoogland; two brothers, Alfred and Ethel of Hospers and Dick and Joan of Sioux Center; and two sisters, Bertha and Gerrit Brands of Rock Valley and Alice and Melvin Brands of Boyden. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
