11/30/1912 - Saturday, December 16. 2006HILDA TEUNISSEN, 94, of Sioux Center, IA died Saturday, 12/16, at Royale Meadows Care Center in Sioux Center. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, 12/20, at 11am at the Netherlands Reformed Church of Sioux Center. Interment will be held prior to the memorial service in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.
Hilda (Meyer) Teunissen went to be with her Lord on Saturday, December 16, 2006 having attained the age of 94 years and 16 days. Hilda was born on November 30, 1912 in Sioux County, Iowa to Gerrit and Hendrika (Van Voorst) Meyer. She was one of seven children which included her two sisters, Gertrude and Hermina and four brothers, Henry, Richard, Gerrit and Peter.
Hilda married Anthony Teunissen on March 2, 1936. She gave birth to eight children: Cornelia her first daughter married Elmer Vlastuin and lives in Jenison, Ml; eldest son, Gerrit married Eunice Wallenburg and lives in Rock Valley, daughter Henrietta went to be with the Lord in July 2005, her husband Marion Van Beek lives in Hudsonville, Ml; son Anthony, Jr. married Maria den Hoed and lives in Doon; daughter Wilma married Ron Moser and lives in
Lester, Ron went to be with the Lord in September 2005; son Henry John died in infancy in 1952; son Harvey lives in Sioux Center; daughter Helen Gore lives in Charleston, SC (Harvey and Helen are known as the twins) and honorary daughter Etta Hofland lives in Orange City.Hilda and her husband Anthony farmed for many years near Le Mars and Sioux Center. They settled in Sioux Center in 1965. Anthony preceded her in death in July 1967 after 31 years of marriage. Hilda was a member of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation of Sioux Center. While living in Sioux Center she worked for many years for Johnny's Electric, which later became Interstates Electric. Later in life she resided at Franken Manor for 25 years before becoming a resident of Royale Meadows Care Center where she died surrounded by family. Hilda was known for crocheting beautiful hankies and doilies. She was an avid reader, enjoyed baking and spending time with her family and friends.
In addition to her children, Hilda is survived by 26 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren; along with brother and sister-in-law, Gerrit and Ann Meyer of Orange City; sister-in-law, Essie Meyer of Lynden, WA; sister-in-law, Cora Teunissen of Corsica, SD.
