Cornie Te Grotenhuis of Newkirk died early Sunday morning from injuries received in a car-tractor collision Saturday at 5:45 p.m. northeast of Newkirk. Mr. Grotenhuis, who was 53 years of ago, was driving a tractor in a northerly direction on a county road when he collided with a car driven by John Den Hartog Jr., 18, of Hospers. The accident happened at an intersection 2 miles east and 1 mile north of Newkirk. The tractor ran into the car broadside and was broken in half by the impact. Mr. Grotenhuis was thrown from the seat and suffered fractured skull and punctured lung. He was taken to the Orange City hospital.

The driver of the car received only minor injuries when his car pitched into the roadside ditch. He was driving a 1941 Chevrolet club coupe and going west at the time of the crash. He works for a brother who lives in the Hospcrs-Newkirk vicinity.

Mr. Te Grotenhuis was a bachelor and lived with his brother Henry 2 miles cast and 1 1/2 miles north of Newkirk, not far from the scene of the accident. Sheriff Harry Dykstra, who investigated the accident says that the intersection in question was clear of obstructing growth of corn or other crops or trees and vision unobstructed in both direction.
