Arthur F. Gregg, 59, of Hawarden, died Friday, December 27, at the Hawarden Community Hospital after a one-year illness.
Services were at 1:30 p.m. Monday, December 30, at the Associated Church in Hawarden. The Rev. Fredrick Mellberg officiated. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery in Hawarden under the direction of the Dow Funeral Home. Visitation was held at the church and a prayer service was also held Sunday.
Arthur Gregg was born May 29, 1926, in Hawarden. He attended school in Hawarden and was graduated from the University of Iowa in 1950. He served in the U.S. Infantry during World War II. He married, Ruth Miller on March 29, 1953 in, Albert Lea, Minnesota.
Mr. Gregg was a former cattle buyer for the Wilson Packing Co. of Albert Lea and the Needham Packing Co. of Sioux City. The family lived in Sioux Falls and Sioux City prior to moving to Hawarden in 1961. After moving to Hawarden, Mr.
Gregg was engaged in farming and livestock feeding.Mr. Gregg was a member of the Associated Church, the Dale Masonic Lodge No. 456, the Calliope Village, the Big Sioux River Valley Historical Society, and the Saddle Club of Hawarden. He also served in many civic and church organizations including past president of the Sioux County Rural Electric Board.
Survivors include his wife; a son, , Dave of Hawarden; a daughter, Mrs. Vern (Joan) Vande Brake of Alton; a brother, Ralph of Hawarden; and two granddaughters. The family requests memorials be made to the Associated Church Mission Fund.
